Good governance should begin from the very top

We are beginning to see the same old story again. Previous government bigwigs and the not-so-big wigs are being accused of plundering the State and therefore the people. The theatrics end there. After some time everybody loses interest and nothing comes of them. The present regime came to power on a platform of good governance. What better way to begin it than right at the top? I request the Government to make it compulsory for politicians in power to declare all their assets to the public before the 100 days is over. Though there is a statute on this declaration, it has never been heeded. This declaration should also be applicable to all Government servants heading Government institutions. Also, every politician should declare the total benefits that he/she is entitled to. This goes down from salary, allowances, number of State vehicles, support staff and their emoluments, right down to the number and cost of telephones/mobile phones maintained at State expenses. One cannot be serious about good governance if, at the least, the above cannot be disclosed to the public. Watchman
