Indian High Commission responds to ‘Modi mania, Hindu Raj policies and Sri Lanka’

This is with reference to an op-ed titled ‘Modi mania, Hindu Raj policies and Sri Lanka’ by Mano Ratwatte published in the Weekend FT on Saturday, 21 March.
It is surprising that a newspaper of your calibre deigned to publish such a scurrilous, factually incorrect, biased and offensive piece, which clearly is the product of a prejudiced and delusional mind.
The author has the temerity to refer to the distinguished External Affairs Minister of India in extremely derogatory terms, displaying an utter lack of basic decency. Further, he has drawn some ludicrous conclusions based on a warped and superficial understanding of complex foreign policy issues. The unwarranted extrapolations, based on quixotic flights of fancy and a malevolent and mischievous interpretation of events, calls into question the credibility of the writer.
Casting aspersions on the announcements made during Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to Sri Lanka, which have been welcomed by the Government and people of Sri Lanka, is churlish to the extreme and is an amateurish attempt to whip up anti-India sentiments. I may add, we will not dignify the article by a responding to its content.
In the midst of his ranting, Ratwatte expresses appreciation for “smart educated Foreign Service professionals (of India) who are apolitical’. No patriotic Foreign Service professional would let the unwarranted and uniformed vitriol unleashed by Ratwatte go unchallenged.
It is hoped that in the future your esteemed newspaper will not give space to such drivel so obviously aimed at tarnishing the ancient and symbiotic ties that bind India and Sri Lanka.
