MDP/JP in Colombo to brief international community regarding political situation

A delegation of MDP and JP officials travelled to Sri Lanka Wednesday night on a one-day trip to brief foreign ambassadors based in Colombo with information regarding the political situation in the country. The delegation is headed by JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim and MDP member – former People’s Majlis Speaker Abdulla Shahid. The rest of the delegation is made up of Male City Mayor Mohamed Shihab – who is also a member of MDP National Council, former Police Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz – who is Deputy Leader of JP Parliamentary Group, and JP Deputy Leader Dr. Hussein Rasheed Hassan. Speaking to press before departing for Lanka, JP leader Qasim said that they would be briefing foreign ambassadors from all over the world regarding unlawful activities taking place in the country, and that meetings had already been arranged with ambassadors from United Kingdom, United States and European Union. Shahid said that government was failing in their efforts to keep everything taking place in the country shrouded in secrecy, and that the entire international community knew the current political situation in the country. “All countries in the world are showing their concern over the situation in Maldives. The question that arises in my mind is why the government is treating Maldivian citizens so poorly,” said Shahid, who had also served as Foreign Minister in the past.
