Puritas, a company at the forefront of pollution control and environment protection in Sri Lanka, recently extended its support to Colombo’s City Traffic Police with a donation of 500 Oxypura branded face masks. The Oxypura face masks are intended to protect the traffic police from vehicle emissions and minute dust particles that they are exposed to whilst on duty. Commenting on the donation, Director Road Safety & Traffic Control SP R.D.C. Ranasinghe said: “I would like to thank Puritas for donating these facemasks. With the increasing number of vehicles on the road, air pollution has reached alarming levels. This has led to the Colombo’s traffic policemen and women being exposed to toxic air, making them vulnerable to respiratory diseases and cancers. These face masks would help them carry out their duties without the fear of inhaling harmful pollutants.” Oxypura face masks have a unique dual functionality with their twin filters – an activated carbon filter keeps the harmful gases out while a particulate filter protects the user from minute particles to a 0.3 micron level thereby deodorizing and disinfecting the air that is being breathed in. The activated carbon contained in these face masks are manufactured by Haycarb PLC, the world’s largest manufacturer of coconut shell based activated carbon. Adapted to local climatic conditions, the face masks come with an inner cotton layer to absorb sweat and body heat. Puritas Director Sharmila Ragunathan said: “Sri Lanka Air Quality Index (SLAQI) statistics provided by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) show an alarming increase in the concentration of harmful gases such as Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur Di-oxide, and Nitrogen Di-oxide in the air around Colombo. The men and women of the city’s traffic police are exposed to this toxic air in their line of duty. We at Puritas are glad to help them with our Oxypura face masks.” Designed to protect motorcyclists, pedestrians, and others exposed to vehicle emissions, Oxypura face masks are available at pharmacies, hardware stores, supermarkets, motorbike spare parts stores, and Agrochemical shops. An ISO 90001:2000 certified company; Puritas is a fully-owned subsidiary of Haycarb PLC and a member of the Hayleys Group. The company offers a wide range of products and solutions for pollution control, water and wastewater treatment along with activated carbon based products and specialty chemicals.
