The United States said on Thursday that the Government of Sri Lanka to date has not initiated any kind of investigation into the alleged human rights violations.

“To date, the Government of Sri Lanka has not initiated a full, credible, or independent investigation into longstanding allegations of human rights abuses in Sri Lanka, including sexual assault,” Patrick Ventrell, Acting Deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State said at the daily press briefing on Thursday.

He was responding to media inquiries about the reports released by the United Nations and Human Rights Watch accusing Sri Lanka of human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian law.

The spokesperson, expressing strong concern about human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian law in Sri Lanka, said that the US is still reviewing this lengthy and extensive report and has not made any decisions yet.
