UNP fast becoming a disappointment

Nearly 60 days into the new Government led by Ranil Wickremesinghe, other than a Budget which has been changed already more than five times due to the Ministry of Finance getting its wires crossed and a few items being reduced, it has been a real disappointment. The Super Gains Tax and Mansion Tax were totally mismanaged from day one. It is the private sector that provides jobs. More than seven million people are employed in the private sector. Why would you want to cause havoc in publicly-held public companies? The telecom sector has been pushed to the wall. They will die. Where are the UNP brains? It is surely a lack of experience and business sense of how the world is changing and what commercial business is. Meanwhile President Sirisena’s popularity has soared. If he were to contest head-to-head with the PM, the PM will not even get 25% of the votes. Most of the public institutions are still without heads. Many of the previous people continue. Investigations were promised; nothing has happened. EPF investigations will never happen in the current set up in the Central Bank. If they can, show us. The UNP is accused of protecting the Rajapaksas. The UPFA is not interested in a unity government according to newspapers. So what is UNP’s plight if all parties gravitate towards the popular President? The UNP will have to sit in Opposition once again. Priyantha
