WISTA Sri Lanka recognises Best Female Student at ICS award ceremony

The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Sri Lanka, was the proud sponsor of the award for the ‘Best Female student – Foundation Diploma in Port Agency’ at the recently concluded 22nd Annual Award Ceremony of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (UK) – Sri Lanka branch. The function was held at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel, Colombo. 

WISTA is a worldwide networking organisation for women at management level in the maritime transport business and related trades; currently, WISTA has 18,000 members in 33 countries. WISTA believes the inclusion of qualified females is pivotal for the growth of the maritime industry, and seeks to empower females already engaged in the industry.

The Sri Lankan Chapter of WISTA was launched on 3 July 2014 and is aimed at developing networking among the women within the shipping and logistics trade while training and mentoring junior female staff as well as creating work placements for women in the shipping trade. 

The objectives of WISTA Sri Lanka include the recognition of female achievers within the relevant fields, the creation of a forum to address industry-related issues, acting as representatives to the relevant authorities, and the development of close cooperation with relevant maritime organisations both locally and internationally. WISTA helps women to support each other and share their experiences regarding the work-life balance.
