CMI UK recognises TMC Members at Management Excellence Awards 2017

The Chartered Management Institute (UK) – Sri Lanka Branch held its Awards presentation on 29 March at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo. This was the very first Management Excellence Awards Scheme held CMI UK to recognise the most promising and innovative leaders in the Sri Lankan business community. Awards were presented in three industry categories and two organisational sizes to the premier professionals in Sri Lanka, culminating in the awarding of The Chartered Management Lifetime Achievement Award 2017.

Former Carson Cumberbatch PLC Senior Director Sega Nagendra, who continues to hold many non-executive Director roles in several reputed Sri Lankan companies, was awarded the CMI Lifetime Achievement Award 2017. Nagendra has 51 years of expertise in management, holding prestigious positions in blue-chip companies, and has provided leadership and guidance to young and dynamic teams. During his long career, he adopted the best practices of business. He has also been an active Member and held the highest positions in many business councils. Being a Founder Member of CMI Sri Lanka Branch, Nagendra continues to be involved in its activities. In recognition of his services as Past President and his contributions to management and leadership, he was honoured with CMI’s highest level of Membership, ‘Companion’. He also holds a MBA (UK) and FCPM (Sri Lanka). The Award for the highest contributing CMI Management Professional was presented to Fayaz Saleem, for having shown professional potential with promising and remarkable contribution to his companies, as well as to CMI Sri Lanka – in particular, his contribution by being a Founder Member of the CMI Sri Lanka Branch, holding the position of President from 1999 – 2001, and for his initiative in forming The Management Club (TMC). He is presently the President Emeritus of the Management Club. 

Chinthana Jayasekara is awarded Best Future Leader of the Year (Industry Sector, Large category)

Saleem was the Founder President of the Forum of Chartered Institutes and Founder and former President of the Association of International Standards. He was also honoured by the Chartered Management Institute by inviting him to be a Companion of the Institute, for his contribution to leadership and management. He has progressively developed his human resource consultancy companies from 1978 to date, comprising of seven business units, and has pioneered local employment operations in this country, as well as introducing the concept of headhunting almost 30 years ago. Saleem is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. 

The Award for the Best Future Leader was presented to Chinthana Jayasekara, taking into consideration his ability to successfully lead teams, inspire those around him and add value to the organisation. Jayasekara holds a General Management Diploma from the National University of Singapore, BSc (Hons.) (Peradeniya, SL), and an MBA from the University of Southern Queensland (Australia). He is also a Certified Management Accountant (UK) and a Chartered Management Accountant (Australia). Jayasekara is attached to Dialog Axiata PLC as General Manager (Group Business Development) and has over 20 years of experience in the fields of business development, digital business and telecommunication & marketing. He is a former Treasurer of TMC Colombo.
