‘A personal journey of discovery for over 3 decades in servant leadership’
A unique and important introduction to a personal journey of over 30 years in Servant Leadership would be an interesting topic that would be presented by Col. Faiz ur Rahman who is an eloquent speaker on a multitude of subjects.
Members and guests may have this rare opportunity of listing to a presentation that will have some rare insights into Servant Leadership with anecdotes, stories, etc.
Col. Rahman received his secondary education at Royal College, Colombo, and went on to follow an undergraduate degree course in Electronics and Communication Engineering at the College of Engineering, Guindy in India. Thereafter he obtained an MSc in Management Science from the Cranfield Institute of Technology, UK. After a brief stint as a member of the Sri Lanka Engineering Service he became the first Engineer to be selected on the basis of an Open Competitive Examination to the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1973
. Col. Rahman served as the Commanding Officer of the 4th Engineer Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and retired in the rank of Colonel in 1990. Col. Rahman is the Founder and Managing Director of a number of business units within the Capitol Group of Companies, working with a vision to make positive contributions towards the progress of people, organisations and the country. He now serves as the Group’s Chairman.
Col. Faiz-ur Rahman is a founder member and Past President of the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka. During his long association with the Institute he has represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Association of Management Organisation bi-annual meetings in Thailand, Australia, India, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia and Japan. He has been a Founder Member of the Management Club and a Past President of the Board of Management. Col. Rahman has been a Consultant and Visiting Lecturer at the Department of Management of Technology in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Moratuwa as well as a member of the Panel of Examiners for the MBA Program. He was also a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee of the newly formed Department of Transport and Logistics. He was a member of the Board of Studies in Management Studies at the University of Peradeniya, Post Graduate Institute of Agriculture.
Col. Rahman is a keen student of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, USA and a regular delegate at the Annual Sessions of Global Logistics Forums in North America, Europe and Asia, for nearly three decades. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, UK; a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, UK and Past President of the Chartered Management Institute, UK, Sri Lanka Branch.
He is a past President of the Sri Lanka Army Engineers Association; a past Vice President of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Institute. He is currently a Vice President of the Royal College Union.
