Amãna Takaful bags silver at SLIBFI Awards

Composite insurer Amãna Takaful PLC received silver in the ‘Islamic Finance Entity of the Year’ category at the Sri Lanka Islamic Banking and Finance Industry Awards held recently at the Galadari. Inaugurated in 2012, the awards recognise and honour individuals and institutions making a significant contribution to the Sri Lankan Islamic banking and finance (SLIFB) industry.  The awards highlight excellence in the Islamic banking and finance industry, with special note being given to innovative technology, social up liftmen and novel products. This year, the awards ceremony was held for the first time as part of a gala evening which celebrated the gathering of the SLIFB fraternity. Accolades were awarded in multiple categories which were keenly contested Amãna Takaful CEO Fazal Ghaffoor expressed his delight at the accolade, saying: “We are honoured to receive this recognition from the Sri Lankan Islamic banking and finance community.  At Amãna Takaful, we endeavour to deliver the best to our stakeholders, profitably and productively, while at the same time remaining committed to the noble ideals of ethical and transparent practices. This award is a welcome acknowledgement of our hard work and the trust our policyholders place in us.” In addition to this accolade, Amãna Takaful also recently received the bronze award in the ‘Turnaround Brand of the Year’ category at the SLIM Brand Excellence 2013 Awards and was declared the ‘Best Islamic Financial Service Provided’ in Sri Lanka by the International Finance Magazine (IFM), UK.   Amãna Takaful is one of the few ISO certified insurance operators in Sri Lanka and operates in three key strategic business units, specialising in Life, General and medical. The company operates in 22 locations in the country, and intends to keep expanding. Amãna Takaful was recently assigned a BBB- and P3 rating for long and short term claims paying ability respectively by RAM Ratings Lanka. The ratings are supported by ATL’s above-average general insurance underwriting performance, conservative investment policy and above-average capitalisation levels. The current Board of Amãna Takaful includes M/S. Tyeab Akbarally (Chairman), Ehsan Zaheed (Executive Director), Non-Executive Directors Osman Kassim, Dr. A.A.M. Haroon and Dr. T. Senthilverl, and Non-Executive Independent Directors M.H.M. Rafiq, Dato’ Fadzli Yusof, A.S.M. Muzzamil, Ali Sabry, Dr. Ifthikar Ismail and R. Gopinath.
