Everyday thousands of Sri Lankans rely on Anchor Newdale for a taste of top quality, fresh dairy nutrition. It is Sri Lanka’s number one yoghurt brand, with millions of cups enjoyed across the island every month. Setting the standard for freshness and quality, Anchor Newdale products are made using locally sourced milk, making it a family favourite across Sri Lanka.
Speaking on the local milk sourcing operations Fonterra Managing Director, Fonterra Brands Sri Lanka Achyut Kasireddy said: “The milk that goes into Anchor Newdale products comes from farmers in Fonterra’s farmer development programme – an initiative that has been in place for almost two decades. This programme provides local farmers with support, advice and training to help them produce some of the highest quality milk in the country, ensuring only the best raw milk goes into our Anchor Newdale products.”
“A non negotiable factor with all of our brands is quality and we make sure our Anchor Newdale range delivers the best in fresh dairy nutrition, every time.”
Producing an Anchor Newdale product starts on local Sri Lankan dairy farms and Fonterra – the brand’s parent company – works closely alongside the farmers it partners with to ensure they’re producing the best quality milk.
From training on best practices, supporting the construction of dairy sheds and artificial insemination to helping farmers access supplements and feed, the Fonterra farmer development programme ensures that the Anchor Newdale supply chain begins with nothing but top quality raw milk.
The ‘MilkyWay’ that the fresh milk travels, begins at the farm and then moves forward to one of Fonterra’s nine chilling centres, where farmers in the area deliver their freshly produced milk within a few hours of milking. Upon arrival, the milk is tested by the chilling centre employees to ensure that it’s of a high enough quality to be made into Anchor Newdale products. Only milk that passes this test is then collected and transported to the manufacturing site.
When the milk arrives at the site, it is tested once again to ensure that the milk received is suitable for production.
“We have strict quality standards in place, every step of the way. Throughout the manufacturing process, more than 50 different tests are carried out to make sure people are eating top quality, fresh dairy nutrition every time. Our fully integrated supply chain means that we are also able to ensure that our strict global quality standards are upheld as milk goes from the farm to families as finished products,” said Kasireddy.
The Fonterra manufacturing site in Biyagama utilises cutting edge technology – the site is also the most sophisticated yoghurt manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka.
“Our ‘FFS Machine’ (Form, Fill, Seal Machine) which produces our Anchor Newdale yoghurts is some of the most sophisticated technology available. The machine carries out the entire process automatically – there is no human contact with the milk from the point it reaches the machine until it comes out as a packaged good.”
Once packaged, the products are boxed and incubated and tested one final time. Once these tests are complete, the boxes are stored in a chiller before being loaded onto specially refrigerated trucks for transport to distributors and retailers.
Kasireddy concluded: “Anchor Newdale is committed to providing the highest quality, fresh dairy products. Using milk sourced from local Sri Lankan dairy farms and carrying out extensive testing every step of the way, we make sure we’re providing Sri Lankans with top quality, fresh dairy nutrition.”
