About the presenter
Cdr Russell Kerkoven is the CEO and Principal Trainer of Learning Space and was the former CEO of Distance Learning Centre, which is a joint venture between the Government of Sri Lanka and the World Bank. Cdr Kerkoven has a MBA from Post Graduate Institute of Management of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura as well as an MSc from the University of Madras.
He served 21 years in the Sri Lanka Navy, and retired after holding the rank of Commander. He also held the appointment as Commanding Officer Naval Dockyard. The staff appointments he held included the Deputy Director Naval Personnel. On completion of his naval career in 1996, Russell worked in the Private Sector. He served at Prima, and Gesco – as local representative of the Harris Corp, Honeywell, and SIMRAD.
He also served as Projects and Administration Manager of Bodyline Ltd during the year 2000. Cdr. Russell Kerkoven additionally functioned as the Continuous Improvement Champion at Bodyline (Pvt) Ltd, in which period Bodyline won several prestigious awards, namely, Taiko Akimoto 5S Competition, Most Energy Efficient Company, Sri Lanka National Quality Award and Sri Lanka National Productivity Award.
Cdr Russell Kerkoven was the CEO of DLC Ltd, which is a World Bank Funded Advanced Training Facility. While at DLC he was instrumental in getting DLC Colombo remapped into the prestigious East Asia Pacific Region of the Global Development Network, the Learning and Knowledge arm of the World Bank. He has travelled extensively and was trained in Great Britain, India, Pakistan, Israel, and USA.
