The journey continues after the introduction of eco-friendly bags to the Horton Plains under the theme ‘Protect your beautiful world’ where another CSR project by Asian Alliance Insurance has come to success in the outskirts of the Yala Forest reserve, where it has erected several awareness banners along the Yala-Buttala route.
The awareness banners extend from the beginning of the Buttala road to the Yala wildlife office entrance from the Buttala side. The objective of rendering this humanitarian service towards preserving the natural heritages of Sri Lanka is mainly with the introduction of new technology the complication of life has significantly increased so generally the awareness towards the environment has somewhat depleted so as an insurance company Asian Alliance Insurance has proven itself not only to assure the future of its clients but also Mother Nature, who provides for us all.
The project came to life on 28 February and through the commitment of the Marketing Team of Asian Alliance Insurance and the guidance of the Wildlife Department and the General, finally the project came to closure on 2 March after erecting 17 banners on the outskirts of the reserve. The banners are in all three languages and carrying slogans instructing people to ‘drive slow’ and ‘be watchful’; the luminous surface allows the banners to glow in the dark even under poor light.
“We are proud to announce another stage of our CSR campaign has been successfully accomplished, after the project at Horton Plains. We have spent our time putting our mission into motion gradually around Sri Lanka. The wildlife along this Yala- Buttala road were inevitably under risk and a pressuring number of incidents were reported where animals who cross-over through the road have got killed or injured due to unawareness of the drivers. We at Asian Alliance make a special allocation from our profit to fund and provide for such causes, under the theme ‘Protect your beautiful world,’ where we in collaboration with the Wildlife Department have put two wheels in motion with the objective of preserving our gifts of nature,” said Chula Hettiarchchi, Chief Operating Officer – Life Insurance at Asian Alliance, who has been the pilot in this project.
The majority of the signs are of 8x6 ft double sided and the signs at the entrance from Buttala and the one near the wildlife office are of 15x10 ft single sided.
This is an era where when people see a dead animal road they will simply drive away without a second glance or a second thought, despite Sri Lanka being a country where natural beauty and the wildlife is a key factor for tourism and a significant amount of income is recorded per year.
Wildlife and its related sources face a direct threat created by no one but man himself. The destruction of forests and the pollution of the related environment have tempted wild animals to diverge from their natural habitats and wander into densely-populated areas, thus getting run over by vehicles.
The Wildlife Department was extremely pleased by the project undertaken by the Asian Alliance Insurance and they have shown their guidance and support throughout the passage and encouraged them to allocate their time and resources in the future to promote this type of green and humanitarian projects within the private sector.
