Baby Cheramy, a trusted brand of leading Sri Lankan conglomerate Hemas Holdings PLC, celebrated World Children’s Day this year by donating books and school stationary to the Department of Probation and Childcare Services.

The donation was presented to the Minister of Child Development and Women’s Affairs Hon. Tissa Karalliyadda by Hemas Marketing Manager, Derrick Antony at the Ministry premises.

The initiative is part of Baby Cheramy’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme ‘The Big Heart Project’, which was launched this year with the aim of promoting education among children in Sri Lanka, marking the brand’s 50th year in the country.  The books and stationary donated to the Department of Probation and Childcare Services were contributed by both Baby Cheramy and the public. Through a special ‘Big Heart Project’ stall at the popular International Book Fair in Colombo recently, Baby Cheramy drove awareness about the importance of education for children and encouraged thousands of people visiting the fair to donate books and stationary to children in need.

The Big Heart Project by Baby Cheramy in partnership with the Department of Probation and Childcare Services of the Ministry of Child Development & Women Affairs will fund the education of disadvantaged children from across the country during their crucial first five years of schooling.  Baby Cheramy will fund the education of these children from Grades One to Five by contributing 50 cents from every Baby Cheramy product sold.

The Big Heart Project will specifically fund children that are ‘at-risk’, or in danger of being institutionalized due to the financial inability of their families’ to care for them. ‘Big Heart Project’ will fund the education of such at-risk children with the purpose of providing much needed support to parents while ensuring these children remain in the care of their families.

Former national cricketer and Project Ambassador for Big Heart Project Roshan Mahanama will join hand with Baby Cheramy to encourage likeminded Sri Lankans to open their hearts in support of this cause with an extensive all island awareness drive.  A dedicated bank account under ‘Sevana Sarana Foster Parent Scheme’ (Account No: 174-1-001-1-9026268 at People’s Bank, Nugegoda branch) has been opened for funds and the account will be monitored by the Ministry of Child Development & Women Affairs.

Baby Cheramy was introduced to Sri Lanka in 1962. It has since grown to be a diverse, multi-sector range and has reached the No. 1 position in the country’s baby care category. With a rich heritage of 50 years in serving the nation, Baby Cheramy aspires to continue its quest of enriching the lives of mothers and babies in Sri Lanka.
