Hemas Baby Cheramy signed on Cargills Food City to be the Official Retail Partner for the Big Heart Project recently. This year, Hemas’ flagship brand Baby Cheramy celebrated 50 years in Sri Lanka, by launching the Big Heart Project.

The project, which was launched with the aid of The Department of Probation and Childcare Services, aims to provide primary education to children at-risk of being institutionalised due to their families’ inability to care for them.

Baby Cheramy made an initial pledge Rs. 5.1 million for the cause, and is currently engaged in raising public awareness and funding for underprivileged children to continue with their education.

Retail giant Cargills Food City has come onboard to support this cause which another milestone for the Big Heart Project, as Cargills is not a newcomer to community enrichment projects, having established One Trust in 2004. The core objective of One Trust is to strengthen and empower children affected by conflict directly or indirectly.

Cargills will support Baby Cheramy’s Big Heart Project by encouraging their shoppers across the island to contribute towards the education of children in need. Speaking on why Cargills joined as the retail partner for the Big Heart Project, Cargills (Ceylon) PLC General Manager – Retail Marketing , Pravin David, said “We will support Baby Cheramy’s Big Heart Project by encouraging shoppers across the island to contribute towards the education of children in need.”

David went to add, “The Big Heart project is very much aligned with the vision of our own philanthropic trust, One Trust Sri Lanka, through which we empower children through education, aesthetics and play. We are therefore actively promoting the Big Heart project and consumers are encouraged to drop off donations of educational supplies at the Big Heart drop-box placed at Cargills Food City outlets.”

The donated educational supplies would be distributed to needy schools selected from the local community itself. Starting now, there will be Big Heart Project drop boxes at all Cargills outlets so that anyone with the heart to donate can provide educational supplies for these children. The educational supplies collected will be donated to impoverished schools through the Big Heart Project.

Baby Cheramy was introduced to Sri Lanka in 1962. It has since grown to be a diverse, multi-sector range and has reached the number one position in the country’s baby care category. With a rich heritage of over 50 years in serving the nation, Baby Cheramy aspires to continue its quest of enriching the lives of mothers and babies in Sri Lanka.
