Bollywood’s new sensation Sonakshi Sinha arrives

Bollywood cinema’s latest female sensation Ms.Sonakshi Sinha arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday via Sri Lankan Airlines UL 142 at 5.44 a.m. from Mumbai –India for a four- day special promotional assignment in the country.

The Bollywood beauty was given a very warm reception on arrival at the BIA, with a traditional welcome dance and greeted by a team of official representatives from Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau and Event Concepts Company Pvt Ltd who are the strategic partners in organizing her visit to Sri Lanka.

During her four day visit in Sri Lanka, Ms. Sonakshi will participate in several promotional activities including a cover page photo-shoot in Sirigirya to one of Europe’s most prominent fashion and lifestyle magazine- L’Officiel and she will also take part in a special programme produced by the world’s leading electronic broadcaster –The CNN Channel about her exposure in Sri Lanka.

Hailing from an elite Indian family, she is the only daughter of popular actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha nicknamed as “Shot-gun” in show business , who has contributed to the development of Indian cinema as an actor and playback singer from early 70’s to late 20’s.

He was also representing the Indian parliament as the Union Cabinet Minister of Health and Family Welfare (Jan 2003-May 2004) and Shipping (Aug. 2004).

Following her father’s foot-steps, Sonakshi Sinha started her cinema- career as a model and walked the ramp at the Lakme Fashion week in year 2008 and in 2009 consecutively.

She made her breakthrough in acting lead female role in the 2010 Bollywood block-buster film “Dabangg” co-starring with Salman Khan.  The film went on to become one of the highest grossing Bollywood films in 2010; making Sonakshi the most sought after young talent of the year.

She has won multiple awards for her performance in the film “Dabangg” including 2011: Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut;  2011: IIFA Star Debut Award Female;  2011: Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Female; 2011: Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut 2011: 1st Global Indian Film & Television Honors for Most Promising Fresh Face - Female; and many more.

Currently she is working on three new films; “Rowdy Rathore” , “Joker”  and “Race 2”.  Her visit in Sri Lanka this year has created a very positive wave towards promoting Sri Lanka as a destination for film-makers and aesthetic activities.
