With the courtesy of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), a national e-waste week was held from 27 May to 2 June all across the island.
Together with CEA, Geocycle was nominated as the partner for the campaign in North Western Province. Marking this project, two separate e-waste collection campaigns at Puttalam and Wariyapola were conducted collecting over 10 metric tons of electronic waste as part of reaching 200 metric tons nationally.
Both occasions were highlighted by the presence and the commitment of local governmental authorities and political leaders making a sound stand against the electronic waste in their respective constituencies. School children and members of public were present at these events making them a success.
Earlier Geocycle, a business unit of Holcim (Lanka) pioneered in industrial waste management in Sri Lanka since 2003 was awarded with a collective agreement with the Central Environmental Authority during the opening ceremony of the national e-waste week held at the BMICH.
Geocycle is also one of 19 private sector organisations, which were selected to work together with CEA in order to manage electronic waste in Sri Lanka.
