Country Director of British Council Tony Reilly hinted that this year’s Design Fest will have much more than art, craft and design.
Hoping to lure in world famous names to promote the much anticipated SLDF as well as bring in a whole new perspective to the event, the British Council and the Academy of Design has sent out a joint invitation to the infamous Stella McCartney to attend this year’s event. “We have extended a joint invite to Stella McCartney to come out to what promises to be a bigger, better and more ambitious SLDF 2011. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Stella agrees to grace us with her presence.”
McCartney, second child of former Beatle star Sir Paul McCartney rose to fame two years after graduating from Central St. Martins by being appointed as Creative Director for Chloe in Paris. Famous for her non use of leather or fur in her collection, McCartney launched her own fashion house in 2001 in a joint venture with Gucci Group (now PPP Luxury Group) and showcased her first collection in Paris the same year. She also has her own perfume line starting from 2003 titled ‘Stella.’ Her collections include women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, fragrance and organic skincare.
She operates 15 freestanding stores in locations including Manhattan’s Meatpacking district, London’s Mayfair, LA’s West Hollywood, Paris’s Palais Royal and Milan as well as in Beirut, Las Vegas and Rome. Her collections are distributed in over 50 countries through 600 wholesale accounts.
In September 2011, McCartney’s costume designs for the New York City Ballet’s Ocean’s kingdom will premier in New York.
