Doing their share in addressing global warming and climate change, Citi Sri Lanka staff kicked-off the Global Community Day celebrations by conducting a CSR project to plant trees down Bullers Road, Colombo 4 on 27 May 2012 in line with the celebrations of Citi’s 200th anniversary.
Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil, Ravin Basnayake, Country and Chief Executive officer and staff of Citi Sri Lanka participated in this project. The trees chosen for planting were Tabebuia rosea a neotropical tree that grows up to 30 m (1,181 in) and can reach a diameter at breast height of up to 100 cm (3 ft). In the rainy season this tree offers great shade and in the dry season this tree is abundant in flowers.
“Tree planting is an investment in our city’s future, our city will be healthier, safer and more attractive as a result of the trees we plant through this project. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Colombo Municipal Council for their support towards this important initiative,” said Basnayake.
