Students from the Departments of Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing and Management and Jewellery Design at Raffles Institute of Higher Education, Colombo, showcase a well conceptualised exhibition, bringing together a range of cross disciplinary applications and design solutions – resulting in a well executed ‘playground’ with flowers and butterflies hand crafted from re-cycled Elephant Dung paper, tissue paper and newspaper – setting the scene for the ‘Enchanted’ environment.

Within this environment, examples of bright, multi coloured skirts adorned on dress forms, blend in with brightly coloured jewellery constructed from re-cycled paper and accessories such as shoes, are exhibited alongside mood boards, illustrating a segment of each design process. Each piece of work exhibited, is designed and fabricated by individual students, where critical thinking skills and problem solving elements in design are well resolved – underpinning the essential need for technical skills required to construct each piece in a professional and well executed manner which meets industry standards globally. In addition, the research, development and selection of ideas throughout each design problem demonstrates a level of maturity and creativity where students are encouraged to continuously question, construct, de-construct and resolve design elements.

Students at Raffles Institute of Higher Education, Colombo, demonstrate high levels of dedication, maturity and professionalism in their work displayed, where creativity, innovation and attention to detail are very evident.

Raffles opened its first College in Singapore in 1990 and for over 20 years, Raffles have produced award winning graduates.

Having an ‘industry relevant’ curriculum is essential in order to equip students with the necessary design skills and practical knowledge required to impact local, national and international design industries.

Another key success to the Raffles design experience is the dedicated lecturing staff that embraces internationalism and multiculturalism as essential components within the global design environment in the 21st century, guiding, supporting and encouraging students to develop their own individual design language.

Raffles has recently been voted in the Top 50 Fashion Design Institutes in the world by Fashionista. Raffles is the only fashion college from Asia outside of Japan to achieve this top 50 global ranking.
