  • Pership Group owned ‘Exotic Asian Living’ launches Sri Lanka’s first 3 storey container conversion multipurpose building
Unwavering focus on utilising environment friendly materials, sophisticated high-tech fabrication methods to deliver fine design finishes and the ability to deliver a wide range of diverse design options in terms of space, shape and fine finishes, sets Pership Group owned Exotic Asian Living apart. Having completed many successful container conversions in the last few years, Exotic Asian Living aims to revolutionise the way individuals see construction spaces. The company’s latest accomplishment – Sri Lanka’s first three-storey commercial building constructed primarily using containers, adjacent to the main Katugastota road in Kandy, is an ideal example of the potential of container conversions in Sri Lanka. Explaining the business and its scope in Sri Lanka, Pership Group Deputy Chairman/Managing Director J.V. Edwards explained, “Container conversion based construction projects are not a new concept. It has however been severely under utilised in the past and is only now coming into the limelight. With many potential home and business owners recognising the value of fast, durable and efficient construction methods in order to achieve a creative office space, utility or living space; Exotic Asian Living has provided a cost effective, time saving, business effective, convenient solution both internationally and right here in Sri Lanka. In essence, we have successfully bridged the gap between conventional construction methods and container based conversions.” The three storied commercial building that was just completed in the heart of Katugastota town, is a clear indication to the industry that using containers for construction can deliver the same result as normal construction in a more cost effective and architecturally efficient manner. This project serves as a revelation for future builders that within a short span of three and half months a client is able to start seeing significant returns on investment with better utilisation of site space. Exotic Asian Living’s commercial construction in Kandy comprises of a ground floor, first floor and a second floor, which includes a penthouse and terrace, each floor comprising of 960 square feet with fine detailed finishes. Explaining his decision to opt for a container conversion by Exotic Asian Living over regular construction, Dhammika Samarasekara explained, “What I was looking for was a cost effective and efficient solution that could deliver on all of my requirements as well as be environmentally responsible with optimal use of limited land space. Exotic Asian Living delivered on all of the above, completing my project in three and a half months at close to 28% less than regular construction cost. The company’s final product exceeded my expectations in terms of being both visually spectacular as well as being functional, with detailed finishes – all at a fraction of what it would have cost me to complete by traditional methods.  The material used in this project consists of 75% recycled material which was another key factor in my final choice.” The concept of utilising containers to construct alternate living spaces is used widely across Europe and East Asia. The intrinsic strength of a container, as well as its core competency of stability and durability come together to provide an ideal material for construction. With the advances in interior design and building materials, a container can be converted into a range of structures, from a simple back garden office space, to a multi storey building, capable of diverse design elements and the potential to cater to any ambiance the client wishes to create while maintaining the fine finishes required by contemporary constructions. Explaining further, Exotic Asian Living Vice President Sean Silva said, “The sheer versatility of what can be done with a container currently is staggering – the goal of Exotic Asian Living is to provide a space tailored for the needs of each client. By combining innovative construction technology with design excellence, Exotic Asian Living delivers an eco friendly solution, to clients such as new homeowners, individuals looking to renovate a business with a cost effective workspace or the large-scale commercial sector developer.” Combating the issue of constantly rising construction costs and delays, container conversions provide an effective alternative to traditional construction, providing cost effective living spaces at an affordable cost, completed in a shorter time cycle.
