The 2015 International Coloured Gemstone Association Congress in Colombo inked contracts with several stakeholders ahead of the 16th Congress slated to be held in May from 16 to 19 at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel.
Speaking at the ceremonial signing event, ICA 2015 Congress Chairman A.H.M Imtizam said that a special ICA Congress Gem Show – FACETS which will be held 15 to 18 May at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel will be an exclusive networking place with B2B opportunities.
Contracts were signed with Ishan Munaweera (Favorite Holidays) and Shenali Dias (Park Street Mews). Present at the event is ICA Congress 2015 Chairman A.H.M. Imtizam, Secretary Ziqufi Ismail and Congress Events and Entertainment Committee Vice Chairman Armil Samoon
“There will be 55 local stalls with 20 from overseas, all of them have been carefully curated by an expert selection panel,” he said. “FACETS will be a closed event, and would serve as a crucial networking venue for both members and non-members of the ICA to establish links.”
ICA 2015 Congress Secretary Ziqufi Ismail mentioned that next year’s congress would be unlike any other event hosted by the ICA to date.
Fazly Saleem, a notable figure who was there when the ICA was held in 1989 cited that it has been 25 years since the last congress was held and the 2015 Congress would “undoubtedly promote Sri Lanka’s gemstones and portray the country in a new light”.
Delving further into the promotions that have been ongoing, Sellakumar Kandasamy, a Committee Member of the ICA 2015 Congress, said that the congress was being actively promoted at nearly every trade show held across the world on a regular basis.
“We also have a dedicated web portal which is linked with ICA site, it provides members with access to news and information as well as online registrations,” he said. “We are not merely promoting the congress but the tour in Sri Lanka as a holistic experience of the country, so members have more reasons to come.”
Officials from ICA 2015 Congress inked contracts with Favorite Holidays, designated as the official Travel Agent, which would also provide logistic solutions. Contracts also officiated with Cinnamon Grand Hotel, as the prime venue and Mount Lavinia Hotel, where several soirees would be held.
Adding flair to the ICA is a Sri Lankan theme night cum cultural show which will be held at Park Street Mews. The event will be replete with a torch-lit procession around the Beira Lake. Delegates will be taken on a tour to the Gangaramaya Temple and Seema Malakaya, topped off with a street party.
