Sri Lankan Fashion and Apparel Industry prepares for Sri Lanka Design Festival 2010
The Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) 2010 will be held between the 11-17th November focusing on the theme of ‘Design Difference’ – which relates to the difference brought about by creative industries to the national economy while encompassing creative sectors from Fashion & Apparel, Architectural Design, Graphics & Advertising to Crafts & Jewellery Design.
Sri Lanka’s apparel industry, manufactures for some of the best brands in the world and SLDF 2010 aims to highlight this along with a snapshot view of the capabilities that Sri Lanka possesses in terms of its manufacturing and product development potential. More importantly, the festival will bring to light that Sri Lanka is no longer only a manufacturer but a nation brimming with creative potential in par with the world’s best.
The most cutting-edge creations produced by the Sri Lankan apparel industry will take the catwalk at the ‘Industry Show’ participated by some of country’s leading manufacturing giants like MAS, Brandix, Penguin, Hirdaramani, Timex, Voguetex, Orit and Raaksha. The ‘Industry Show’ will also feature ‘Crafts and Industry Collaborations’ consisting of cutting-edge collections created through unique combinations of industry technology and traditional craft expertise.
SLDF 2010 is also hosting a special fashion show titled ‘Celebrating the Women behind the Labels’ for the employees of the apparel industry, as an appreciative gesture to the women who play a massive role in Sri Lanka’s economy. At this exceptional show, the Apparel employees will witness the end-products of their hard work on the runway and see a glimpse of the glamorous world of fashion to which they manufacture for.
Design Festival will play a significant role in providing much-needed scope for business and sourcing opportunities and attracting world-famous retailers such as M & S, Topshop, Asos, Tesco and Warehouse, to name a few. The festival was conceptualised by the Academy of Design (AOD) and is organized by the AOD in partnership with the Export Development Board (EDB). The Event is sponsored by MAS Holdings, Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourism and many others and will be held at the Official Venue – Mount Lavinia Hotel.
