Exhibitions help update industries with latest trends, technologies says Managing Director
Following are excerpts of an interview with India’s Futurex Trade Fair & Events Ltd. Managing Director Prem AnveshiQ: What do you think of the role of exhibitions in the modern era and how it is important for countries to have it? A:Exhibitions are not new. They have been happening for ages and centuries. Previously they took the shape of sandies and then they converted into hats wherein the people from nearby villages used to gather at one place to dispose off their produce on a weekly basis and sometimes monthly basis. These hats converted into bazaars and started happening more frequently. Exhibitions are the enlarged version of these hats and bazaars.
Exhibitions are the place where your client pays to come and look at your products. From the client’s side it becomes very difficult for the buyer to practically visit multiple organisations, look at the product, touch and feel and then compare the pricing and quality; where as in exhibitions it is possible to negotiate, look, touch and feel the products, compare the pricing, compare the quality and negotiate the deals simultaneously.
Major business decisions are taken in the exhibitions. Exhibitions help the countries to update their industries with the latest technologies and latest trends in the world. Exhibitions bring in multiple joint ventures, foreign direct investments and tourism. The big exhibitions attract thousands of business visitors which enhances the tourism industry too.
One more advantage of the exhibition is that they show case the world technology to the medium and small enterprises; this is the segment of the industry which cannot travel abroad and hardly come in contact with latest technology in the world. In exhibitions this segment gets a chance to see the latest trends and technology of the world.
It is very important for the countries to have different industry exhibitions to create a platform for the industry to converge. It helps the company economy to grow faster and efficiently.
Q: How was your previous exhibition?A: We are organising five different shows at a time at the BMICH: Sri Lanka Wood International Exhibition 2014; Sri Lanka Glass International Exhibition 2014; Sri Lanka Aluminium Extrusion International Exhibition 2014; Sri Lanka Roofing & Façade International Exhibition 2014; and Sri Lanka Windows & Doors International Exhibition 2014.
Sri Lanka Windows & Doors International Exhibition, Sri Lanka Aluminium Extrusion International Exhibition & Sri Lanka Glass International Exhibition is the third edition with the overwhelming response of the industry. This show is sponsored by Alumex consecutively.
We started Sri Lanka Wood International Exhibition last year with the participation of several countries which has been received very well by the industry.
Sri Lanka Wood was sponsored by JAT holding and was supported by RMPL (Ramu Machinery Ltd). This year also JAT Holding is sponsoring the show. Sri Lanka Wood is endorsed by Ministries of Industries & Commerce, Industrial Development board.
Q: What are the new initiatives taken this year?A:This year we have a wood working workshop which will benefit the medium and small enterprises. The workshop is conducted by Fest tools. This year we have invited all major carpenter’s associations and associations working in the wood industry.
The new edition for this year’s expo is roofing and façade. We are doing for the first time the roofing and façade expo which is receiving a great response from the industry. We invite all builders, architects, fabricators, engineers to witness the show.
Q: Can you share some information on the seminar and technical session that you will have on 4 October at BMICH?A: In today’s world knowledge is collaborative. It was felt three years before that there is a dire need of the educational platform for the fenestration and facade industry so we started Sri Lanka’s International conclave as an annual event. Consciously we started developing this platform as knowledge based platform and avoided the company presentations and the sales presentations. In our previous seminars all the reputed dignitaries from the architectural & construction world have attended and appreciated our efforts.
This year also we are going to maintain the same legacy and create a world class knowledge platform called Sri Lanka International Conclave which is going to focus on Futuristic Fenestration & Façade. We are getting the speakers from different countries such as Germany, Australia, India, and Dubai and Sri Lanka. They are going to enlighten the audience with their immense knowledge.
Q: How many participants are you having and are they all from Sri Lanka?A:We are having thousands of products from around 200 participants from 10 countries at one location BMICH. Of course we have 60% participants from Sri Lanka and remaining participants from different countries.
Q: What message you would like to give to our readers?A: We would like to invite all the architects, builders, real estate developers and investors to visit the show and not only the big officials but we will request them to send their second and third line in command to come and visit and get benefited. We will like to invite small and medium enterprises people to come and get benefited by workshops and new technologies. We would like to invite all associations and their members working in the field of wood, glass, aluminium and roofing and facades.
