Geocycle, the professional waste management solutions provider launched a new concept of ‘Green Bank’ recently at a simple functions held at its head office at R.A. de Mel Mawatha, Colombo 3, under the patronage of the Swiss Ambassador and many other distinguished guests.
Green Bank is a concept that collects domestic wastes from Holcim employees and rewards them in return as an encouragement to segregate waste at the point of generation. Rewards will be given at the end of the year and all rewards will be environmental friendly products. Employees could bring segregated wastes in dry condition to office twice a week and they are issued an electronic passbook.
Geocycle, being the one and only entity in Sri Lanka that could provide environmental responsible disposal solutions for hazardous waste, has disposed more than 250,000 Mt of waste without any harm to the environment from its inception in 2003, which otherwise could have ended up in open burning or dumping. Currently Geocycle offers its sustainable solution to more than 250 industries both local prisoners and multinational companies, providing them peace of mind.
Geocycle believes that every one of us in the society has a duty to take care of the wastes we generate and we should not wait until the government or the local authority to take actions to eradicate waste problems in Sri Lanka.
According to the famous statement of Mahathma Gandhi, “we must be the change we want to see,” and accordingly Geocycle commenced from its own staff, educating civil society about waste segregation at the point of generation that will help to select appropriate waste disposal solutions according to the characteristics of wastes.
With the success of the project, Geocycle wishes to extend this project to its clients and partners in time to come.
