The students and staff of Hejaaz International School have organised a walk from their school premises to Dehiwala junction to mark World Environment Day 2012 on Friday 15 June at 9 a.m.

The main focus of this walk would be to create awareness among residents towards enhancing the city’s aesthetic beauty and sanitary level there by making it one of the best cities in Sri Lanka.

The organisers of the walk, staff members Prasad Ranasinghe, Anusha Geethanjali , Nadeeshani Silva and Ayesha Indunil, believe that effort by students is important because the city attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world who visit the Zoological Gardens and the Mount Lavinia beach.

This is in keeping with the nation building program of making Sri Lanka a ‘Wonder of Asia’.

Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council Mayor Dhanasiri Amarathunga has initiated several development programmes like improving the quality of roads, a steady dengue eradication program and regular garbage collection, etc.

The walk is mainly targeting getting the citizens of the area to be more involved with commitment to improve the city.

The students of Hejaaz International School will be carrying placards with environment messages and distributing leaflets to the public.

This program will be inaugurated by Amarathunga, Deputy Mayor Kesaralal Gunasekara and member of the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council Nazushan Hassan.
