Hilton Colombo Residences celebrates Earth Hour 2017

Hilton Colombo Residences celebrated Earth Hour 2017 from 8:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, 24 March. The hotel is taking action locally to conserve energy and raise awareness of climate change, joining a global initiative that is open to Hilton’s more than 4,900 properties across 104 countries and territories.

The hotel switched off all its unnecessary lights and turned to alternate sources of candles to illuminate the guest-facing areas such as the lobby and restaurant. The beautifully lit poolside was decorate fittingly and hosted guests of the hotel to snacks and beverages by the pool. In long term plans, the hotel has begun with its segregation of garbage making it recyle-friendly. The hotel has also replaced its plastic water bottles with glass ones on certain floors of the hotel; this would eventually involve the complete operation in due course.

In 2015, Hilton and WWF announced a multi-year commitment to collaborate on a water-stewardship strategy, expand sustainable seafood efforts, advance food waste efforts and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across Hilton’s portfolio. On World Water Day, Hilton announced its collaboration with WWF, for Hilton’s 2025 water commitment program. This pledge will not only focus on water management within their operations, but progressively through their supply chain, as well as in their communities and watersheds. This is another important step forward to conserve resources that are vital to the health of our business, our people and planet.
