As part of its Green Pledge, Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) carried out several initiatives to mark the World Environment Day on 5 June 2012.
HNB has been commemorating World Environment Day for three consecutive years and this year’s activities focused on creating awareness and motivation to protect the environment amongst children.
HNB arranged special programmes to celebrate the World Environment Day at 348 schools all over the country touching nearly 40,000 children and their families. HNB also planted/distributed 20,000 saplings to the children. This would ensure that the 20,000 saplings would have a rightful owner who would nurture it to a fully grown tree.
The tree planting campaign ceremoniously commenced with a special programme under the patronage of R. Theagarajah, Managing Director/CEO, HNB at Dhammasena Atigala Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Kesbewa, Piliyandala, where 200 saplings were distributed amongst the students, teachers and parents.
