Holcim Lanka and Bimputh Finance to become go-to provider for affordable housing

Holcim Lanka, a member of the Lafarge Holcim Group, global leader in the construction material industry recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in partnership with Bimputh Finance PLC, a leading micro-finance institution in Sri Lanka, pledging to be the provider for the ‘Poorna Nivasi’ – Affordable Housing program. 

The Affordable Housing program is part of Lafarge Holcim’s global platform which aims to make a high social impact by assisting home-builders with relatively lower incomes to access housing at the most affordable cost. 

Under this program, beneficiaries are selected from within the communities attached to Bimputh Finance PLC and given access to flexible financial facilities through Bimputh Finance PLC and provided comprehensive technical facilities via Holcim Lanka. 

Holcim (Lanka) Ltd. CEO Philippe Richart commented at the signing of the MoU, “This project is part of the Lafarge Holcim sustainable development strategy which aims to support 75 million people around the world by 2030. Initiated across 25 countries to support individual home-builders who receive a relatively low-income with access to housing at an affordable cost, through partnerships with entities such as Bimputh Finance PLC, Holcim Lanka will continue to enhance its offering. It is an honour to see the launch of the ‘PoornaNivasi’ Affordable Housing program which will enrich the lives of these beneficiaries.”

Bimputh Finance PLC will provide guidance on finance management throughout the assessment of the credit facility while reaching the end consumers of both entities positively. 

The ‘Poorna Nivasi’ affordable housing program has already reached eight districts during the pilot period and aims to penetrate toward the national level by end of 2016. The program will reach the communities with the theme of ‘Lowa Dinana Daruwata – Hisata Savi Sevanak’ (A strong roof for your child to win the world).
