Holcim Lanka Logistics starts the year with newly unveiled facilities

Holcim Lanka, the local representation of global cement manufacturing company Holcim, inaugurated two new logistics initiatives, adding to a year wherein the company launched a new product identity among many other activities. Operating on a clearly defined triple bottom line approach, Holcim Lanka has placed emphasis on people, profit and the planet. The new initiatives in the Supply Chain Department follows up a highly successful year in 2013 and Holcim Lanka looks poised to continue in its trademark brand of excellent corporate image building. The first of the two initiatives was launched on 1 January when the Holcim Lanka Supply Chain Department inaugurated a new sales office in Kurunegala, at Holcim Lanka warehouse. The new venture is a move in the direction of enhanced customer satisfaction and excellent service, assured by the state of the art facilities installed at the new office. In addition to service oriented features, the new office also ensures safety with consistently displayed safety reminders along with sound lounging facilities for drivers. The second new initiative for the Supply Chain Department comes in the form of a new bulk tanker washing bay, equipped with modern washing apparatus which conforms to higher water efficiency and safe working conditions. This facility is equipped with a state of the art effluent treatment plant which ensures more than 70% reuse of water which demonstrate Holcim’s commitment to Environment. Holcim Bulk Tanker washing bay consumes only 300 litres of water per wash, which is almost the Global Standard, 280 litres per wash Vice President - Supply Chain Charith Wijendra stated: “Operating a clean and tidy vehicle fleet is important for maintaining a good corporate image in the industry as the fleet represents the brand on the roads and at customer sites. Along with Holcim Lanka’s commitment and continuous investments on ensuring a safe work environment, cleanliness of vehicle fleet is a key in terms of visibility of safety illuminations. Armed with the objective of providing unparalleled service and ensured sustainability and safety, the Holcim Lanka Supply Chain Department is set to scale new heights in logistical excellence.”   Under the guidance of Vice President - Supply Chain Charith Wijendra and Manger Outbound Logistics Hirantha Jayakody, Holcim Lanka Logistics partnered with one of Holcim Lanka’s largest third party logistics service providers; Ashoka Exports to make this vision a reality and has been successful in implementing the needful. Holcim Lanka is the local subsidiary to the global construction company, currently operating worldwide.
