Sri Lanka Design Festival 2010 scheduled for November spreads across the six main creative disciplines; fashion design, graphics and advertising, product design, jewellery design, interior design and architecture and traditional crafts.

The festival will highlight the local interior design and architecture industry with a special focus on Green architecture and interior design.

Interior design and architecture will take the centre stage at SLDF 2010 with big names in the industry, including Raefer Wallis, Anura Ratnavibhushana and Joel Rapp (Interior/set designer and Head of Interior Design at AOD), who will conduct their workshops titled Green – Inside and Out, Creating Simplicity and The Set Comes Alive.

Rapp spent many years designing sets for films and theatre, his most notable experience designing on the set of Paramount for films such as Star Trek: The Next Generation.

SLDF will also involve sustainable architectural organisations from the international design arena like the Giga Foundation in China, which is an organisation with the mission of ensuring that all design has a positive impact on the environment. Enthusiasts can also visit the Interior Design Exhibition by AOD to view exhibits by Sri Lanka’s budding interior designers.

The festival is conceptualised by the Academy of Design (AOD) and is organised by the AOD in partnership with the Export Development Board (EDB). The Principal Sponsor of the event is MAS Holdings while Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourism and many others are supporting the event to be held at its Official Venue – Mount Lavinia Hotel.
