One of Sri Lanka’s most dynamic conglomerates, the Blue Ocean Group yesterday broke new ground in the heart of luxury city, Kollupitiya by adding the 18 storey luxury apartment complex named King Alfred Palace into its extensive portfolio of real estate development projects.
At a gala foundation stone laying ceremony under the aegis of Chief Guest, Minister for State Management Reform Naveen Dissanayake, the first step towards transforming the city skyline with these 72 luxury apartments sitting on 50 perches of land at the prestigious location of Alfred House Gardens Colombo 3 was completed.
Set amidst contemporary surrounds of Alfred House Gardens, King Alfred Palace is right next to the British Council and other everyday conveniences, an added fillip to recreational conveniences. The land where the apartment complex is located, inherits historical ties to the palatial De Soysa family’s 19th century mansion, intertwining an interesting touch of yesteryear Colombo, with the contemporary architecture that will be the hallmark of King Alfred Palace.
Upon unveiling the model of King Alfred Palace at the ceremony, Chief Guest, Minister Naveen Dissanayake reminisced about the land on which the apartment complex is to be constructed, stating: “We grew up here and to us, our home was our palace, given that it was rich in laughter, joy and contentment. I strongly believe that all those living within King Alfred Palace will also have that happiness we experienced growing up. Given the burgeoning development we are seeing in the country and Colombo, as the commercial capital being a catalyst in that development, King Alfred Palace is certainly going to play an integral role in adding imperative lifestyle needs that make city living fulfilling. Aligned with the President’s vision of making Sri Lanka South Asia’s Economic Hub by 2015, it is supporting trusses like these projects that add the quintessential elements to that vision, enabling the country to move strongly ahead in it’s developmental journey and become the Wonder of Asia.”
Welcoming the gathered guests, Chairman of Blue Ocean Group S Thumilan, explained that one of the Group’s core strengths is in construction and real estate “in which we possess a wealth of local and global experience where we have already completed some innovative international and local projects”.
Using renowned European and Sri Lanka architects to ensure compliance to international standards, he alluded to the fact that Blue Ocean Group’s success is in the multiplicity of competencies, experience and knowledge within its team, a highly professional collation of chartered architects, chartered accountants, chartered engineers and industry professionals.
“King Alfred Palace therefore indicates our natural progression stemming from these successes. It is one of the landmarks in the real estate development and construction projects that we have undertaken in Colombo and the suburbs including in Colombo 3, 4, 6, Mount Lavinia and Nugegoda. With Blue Ocean Group’s involvement in engineering, trading, education and consultancy, expansion of the Group to key markets in the Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and East Asia has already begun.”
Redefining luxury living in the city, King Alfred Palace infuses unmatched elegance into its entire architectural concept, using contemporary facilities and amenities to add innovative vignettes of modern city life. The two and three bedroom apartments, all of which sport panoramic vistas of either the city or the Indian Ocean, will have spacious tempered glass balconies, living and bedroom areas designed for better air circulation with natural ventilation, beautifully detailed bathrooms with European fittings and Spanish designed walls and flooring and ergonomically designed granite topped European styled pantries with fashionable pantry cupboards. Some apartments even incorporate maid’s quarters with a separate entrance, for absolute privacy for the homeowner.
In addition, an infinity rooftop pool with a dedicated children’s pool, a BBQ pavilion also on the rooftop, a fully equipped gymnasium, six floors of wide ramped parking space, a banquet hall akin to any five star hotel and chauffeurs’ accommodation, recreation and dining spaces is envisaged. It is evident that every detail that melds fast paced city life into a relaxing home environment are being included.
“Since the Urban Development Authority has envisioned a rationalized Colombo by 2020, all new infrastructure developments including Colombo Port City, Lotus Tower, international hotel chains and new apartment complexes like Blue Ocean’s King Alfred Palace, are already enjoying burgeoning demand by both local and foreign industrialists and business clientele,” added Thumilan.
