Sri Lanka’s advertising and graphic industry is a fast evolving sector, that provides dynamic and creatively inspired communication links between suppliers and consumers with concepts that inform, motivate, educate or sell.

SLDF 2010 aims to highlight this powerful industry and to educate the general public and design students on Advertising and Graphics through an extensive programme of exhibitions, workshops and seminars. Additionally, SLDF will highlight the importance of green and ethical practices in Advertising in order to ensure sustainable development of the industry.

Graphic Design and Advertising workshops will be conducted by experts from the local and international advertising and graphics arena. The Motion Graphic Design workshop, conducted by Barry Shwartz — a motion graphic design expert from Addikt, sio one of the most cutting-edge motion graphic studios in the world — will focus on the principles and nuances of motion graphic design. Other significant events in this sphere include workshops on Illustration (Maria Perez), Typography (Rajesh Dahiya — founder of Co-Design, India), and Screen Printing (Alain Parizeau, Head of Graphic Design at the Academy of Design). Joe Lenora, designer and founder member of leading design studio in Colombo We Are Designers, will conduct a seminar titled What’s in which will focus on current trends in web design and visual communication in social media. Graphics Go Green, a workshop conducted by Raefer Wallis, will be centred on the fundamentals of applying green initiatives to graphic design. A Graphics Exhibition will be held throughout the Festival for visitors, a culmination of the hard work and efforts of AOD’s graduating class in Graphic Design. SLDF will also host the ‘Graphic Design Forum’ participated by influential personalities from the Graphics and Advertising Industry including Art Directors, Graphic Designers, Creative Directors and Design Educators.

The festival is conceptualised by the Academy of Design (AOD) and is organised by the AOD in partnership with the Export Development Board (EDB). The Principal Sponsor of the event is MAS Holdings while Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourism and many others are supporting the event to be held at its Official Venue – Mount Lavinia Hotel.
