Maersk’s Triple-E wins ‘Innovation Technology of the Year’

Maersk Line’s Triple-E ships have won the award for ‘Innovation Technology of the Year’ at the first ever Containerisation International Awards.

Rose Coulson, Customer Service director at Maersk Line UK, collected the award on behalf of Maersk Line at the event in London that attracted more than 200 industry professionals.

Maersk Line’s award entry outlined the revolutionary design of the Triple E ships. The new vessels will offer unprecedented environmental performance by reducing CO2 emissions for every container by 50%, compared to the current industry average.

This will be achieved through the new and innovative hull, engine and propeller designs, all of which have been optimized for slow-steaming. The waste heat recovery system will also reduce C02 emissions, by changing the engine’s waste heat into valuable electric power.

Triple-E is also designed for future safe recycling with the introduction of a ‘cradle to cradle’ passport. This record will list all of the materials used to build the ship, where they are located and how they can be disassembled and recycled with minimal environmental impact.

Coulson said, “It is wonderful to have industry acknowledgement that Maersk Line is leading the shipping industry. Environmental performance is more and more important to our customers, and an award like this not only sets us apart from our competitors, it acts as independent verification of our claims.”

Maersk Line was also shortlisted for ‘Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year’ and was awarded highly commended in the category for ‘Global Ocean Carrier of the Year’.
