Members’ Work and Trade Exhibition of ‘Architect 2015’ declared open

The Members’ Work and Trade Exhibition of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) ceremonially opened on 18 February at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The ceremonial opening of the Exhibition is held a day after the inauguration ceremony of ‘Architect 2015’, the 33rd Annual Sessions of the SLIA and the ceremony was graced by many distinguished guests.
This year’s National Conference is based on the theme ‘Conversation with the Sky’ and emphasises on exploring the architects’ role in the field of development as well as social enterprise.
Initiated in 1983, the Members’ Work and Trade Exhibition has grown from strength to strength annually resulting in a large participation that included professionals, students, businesses as well as the general public. This year the Exhibition is comprised of 304 stalls which will display products and services in the field of construction while another area is dedicated towards displaying the works of architects and students. Here visitors are able to access various products related to construction encompassing a wide range that allow them to compare items and services in terms of cost, quality, technology and much more in order to find the best that will suit their individual needs.
Furthermore, the Exhibition also displays works of many architectural firms while students from the University of Moratuwa and the City School of Architecture exhibit their creations and coursework. Conforming to the overruling theme of ‘Architect 2015’, innovative designs take centre stage presenting a view of of the fast changing and developing world of architecture.
The Exhibition also includes information centres run by the SLIA, the University of Moratuwa and the City School of Architecture where parents or prospective students are able to gain more information about pursuing architecture as a profession. Moreover, those who are in search of professional advice will also be directed to the proper places by the information centres.
