Nawaloka Piling Ltd., the largest piling company in Sri Lanka graded by ICTAD as GP-B1 and ISO 9001-2008, OHSAS 18001-2007 certified, broke new ground by completing over 1,000 piles at the Waterfront Integrated Resort Project on the banks of the Beira Lake in Slave Island, a John Keells investment.
This project comprises mainly of large diameter piles including 2000 mm diameter which is the largest size of piles hitherto carried out in Sri Lanka. The project has taken almost 15 months under very hard rock conditions inclusive of up to six meters of rock socketing.
Nawaloka had to work under very stiff safety conditions to meet the International standards as stipulated by the main contractor Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company of Korea in collaboration with Keang Nam and Nawaloka Construction.
Nawaloka Piling employed as much as 10 boring rigs of Germany and Italian origin, such big boring rigs as BG 28, MAIT 420 and MAIT 360, a few of which were specially imported for this project. Nawaloka Piling achieved this whilst simultaneously carrying piling work for the Shangri-La Phase III Project at the Galle Face with 593 piles. Prior to commencing of work at the Waterfront Integrated Resort Site, Nawaloka Piling carried out the phase I piling work for Shangri-La comprising 313 piles.
Other landmark projects carried out by Nawaloka Piling include the upcoming Lotus Tower, Proposed Hyatt Hotel, Unilever Factory at Horana, Defence Headquarters – Akuregoda, On ‘320’ Apartments, Fairmount Residencies, Fairway Sky Garden Residencies, Trillium Residencies (all three phases), Iceland Residencies, Empire City Apartment, Fairway Element Residencies, Clear Point Residencies, Damro City Hotel, Jetwing City Hotel and Maga Head Office, to name a few.
