Niru Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. opened its new office at Access Towers, Union Place last Thursday, which will handle sorting and grading of diamonds and dispatching orders for customers of prestigious Niru Diamonds Ltd., Israel.

The office was declared open by Gem and Jewellery Authority of Sri Lanka Chairman Prasad Galhena and the event was attended by Niru Diamonds Ltd. Chairman Ranjeet Barmecha, who travelled from Israel to grace the occasion.

Niru Lanka is a fully-owned subsidiary of Diamond Cutters Limited, which engages in cutting and polishing diamonds for the export market. Niru Diamonds Limited, Israel is a world-renowned diamond dealer and supplier of fine diamonds to the top end designer jewellery and watch companies in the world. Their clientele includes the world’s top brands.

This elegantly designed office is equipped with the latest equipment to grade and sort diamonds to international standards of the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA).

Niru Lanka Managing Director Janice Baid said that initially the branch would start with 34 well trained diamond sorters under the supervision of GIA instructors. “There is capacity to sort 5,000 carats per month. Since it is an export-oriented company, it will bring in foreign exchange earnings and support Sri Lanka’s dollar earnings.”

Operations Manager Channapriya Fernando added: “The main reason behind the decision to set up this office is to make the process more efficient so that the diamond orders can be dispatched direct to customers world over within a shorter period.”

This office will function as an assorting and dispatching hub for Niru Group of Companies and its client base.
