The Prince of Wales, during his visit to Sri Lanka to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2013, representing the Queen, visited the Colombo National Museum on 15 November 2013.
On arrival, the Prince of Wales was welcomed by National Heritage Minister Dr. Jagath Balasuriya together with Governor of Southern Province Kumari Balasuriya, Ministry of National Heritage Secretary Dr. Nanda Wickramasinghe, Department of National Museums Director Sanuja Kasturiarachchi, HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives Chief Executive Officer Patrick Gallagher and Museum Keeper Ranjith Hewage and greeted by 100 school children of the Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya a participatory school of HSBC’s Future First Entrepreneurship program.
On route to the Arts and Crafts, Arms and Armaments, Traditional Rituals and the Audio Visual Galleries, Charles was also greeted by the museum staff and HSBC senior management.
The refurbishment program of the exhibition galleries of the Colombo National Museum commenced in 2004 under the patronage of the Ministry of National Heritage and HSBC joined the program as co-partner with the sponsorship of necessary funds.
HSBC has contributed approximately USD 381,316 on the refurbishment program, to date.
