Record prices at tea auctions

Parakaduwa breaks own all time record price At this week’s low grown auctions a line of BOP grade from Parakaduwa Factory in Ratnapura planting district set an all time record price of Rs. 850 per kilogram which surpassed the all time record price established by them last week which was Rs. 830 per kilogram for the same grade. The buyer of this line of tea was Imperial Teas Ltd. Parakaduwa factory is owned by M.D. Ariyasena an enterprising entrepreneur who commenced operations with one factory and now owns and manages four factories in the Ratnapura and Ingiriya regions producing over 4 million kilograms per annum.  Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. who is the sole broker for Parakaduwa mark conducted sale of this line of tea.   Renukanda set an all time record price Renukanda Factory situated in Morapitiya, which is owned and managed by Morapitiya Tea Company set an all time record price at this week’s low grown tea auctions for lines of BOPsp grade. The record price established was Rs. 850 per kilogram which surpassed the previous all time record price of Rs. 780 per kilogram.  This line of tea was purchased by Stassen Exports Ltd. Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. conducted the sale of this line of tea.     Waltrim set an all time record for Fannings 1 Grade. At this week’s tea auctions a line of Fannings 1 grade from the state of the art Waltrim Tea Factory situated in the Dimbula Planting District established an all time record price of Rs. 515 per kilogram, surpassing the previous record of Rs. 510 per kilogram.  This line of tea was purchased by Ranfer Teas Ltd. who has been a regular buyer of quality teas from the Waltrim mark.  Watawala Plantations PLC owns and manages Waltrim Estate which is considered as the “Flagship” estate of the company. Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. conducted this record breaking sale of Waltim Invoice.   CTC PF 1 Grade brew fresh all time record prices. Three lines of Kalubowitiyana Mark and two lines of Cee Tee Hills mark established an all time record price of Rs. 670 per kilogram for PF1 grade at this week’s tea auctions. This surpassed the previous all time record price of Rs. 660 per kilogram. The sale of all five lines of PF 1 grade was conducted by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.  The three lines of Kalubowitiyana mark were purchased by Regency Teas Ltd., Ranfer Teas Ltd. and Ceylon Tea Services Ltd. respectively. The two lines of Cee Tee Hills mark was purchased by Beverages Ltd. and Ranfer Teas Ltd. respectively. Kalubowitiyana Factory is the first CTC factory built in the Southern Province and is situated in the Galle Planting District. It is owned and managed by Kalubowitiyana Tea Factories Ltd., coming under the Ministry of Plantations Industries. Kalubowitiyana Tea Factory continues to be the best selling CTC mark in Sri Lanka. The Cee Tee Hills Tea Factory, a state of the art CTC factory certified under ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems, is situated in the Deniyaya Planting District and has been consistently producing quality CTC Teas. The factory is owned and managed by Southern Group of Companies.   Mount Vernon equals own record Mount Vernon Estate equalled its own all time record price of Rs. 520 per kilogram on PF1 grade for a high grown CTC category at this week’s auction. This invoice was purchased by Uniworld Teas Ltd. Mount Vernon estate which is an amalgamation of two estates (Mount Vernon and Dimbula) is situated in the Dimbula planting district at an elevation of 1100 metres to 1200 metres and is renowned for the manufacture of good quality CTC teas. This estate is one of the first estates to be converted to CTC type manufacture in the western high grown elevation category. Mount Vernon is managed by Kotagala Plantations PLC and the sale was conducted by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd., who are the brokers for their produce.
