Resignation of officials

I write in the context of the Dilan Perera, Ajith Nivad Cabraal and Dr. Nalaka Godahewa. The resignations of politicians in the current context should be acceptable as they will be judged at a future election by the people for their actions. But when it comes to civil servants (political appointees or otherwise) they are NOT directly accountable to the people of Sri Lanka. They are accountable and loyal only to their political masters. Hence, it is my opinion that this and other resignation of political appointees should not be accepted just now. The resigning official should submit a written report on his tenure in office and give written evidence of the background to major administrative and financial decisions taken by them in office. In instances where there are allegations of financial fraud, political bias, nepotism and bad governance the official should provide written explanation as to whose orders these actions were carried out on. Only once this document is received by a designated official should the resignation be considered. If the document submitted is unacceptable then a charge sheet should be prepared and appropriate action take under the E code. Until such action is complete the official should be interdicted or dismissed. Please consider this request and get expert administrative opinion to implement this proposal. Dr. Ruvaiz Haniffa
