Rotarian Jesuthasan installed as new District Governor for Sri Lanka and Maldives

Rotarian George A. Jesuthasan, a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, took over the reins of the Rotary in Sri Lanka and Maldives and was ceremonially installed as the new District Governor 2016/2016 at an elaborate ceremony held at the Grand Ballroom, Galadhari Hotel, Colombo, on Saturday 23 May, amidst a distinguished gathering of Rotarians representing clubs island wide as well as from the Maldives. 



Rotary is the oldest service organisation in the world, counting over 110 years and has over 1.2 million members worldwide in over 200 countries serving in over 34,000 clubs. 

Born to a mathematics teacher, as the fourth in a family of seven, Jesuthasan had his primary education at St Henry’s College, Jaffna and his secondary education at Manipay Hindu College. While in school he took a keen interest in Scouting, Soccer and Cricket. 



Jesuthasan is a Chartered Electrical Engineer specialised in telecommunication and is a Member of Institution of Engineering and Technology UK and Member of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka. He has served in multinational companies in Sri Lanka and overseas and counts over 30 years of experience in the electrical/electronic engineering field. Additionally, he also holds a Master of Science degree from University of Sri Jayawardanepura in real estate valuation and management. 

After serving overseas, he returned to the country and established his own business, Micro Bytech International Ltd., providing communication solutions for both voice and data as well as lightning protection solutions. He also serves on the boards of Eve Holding Ltd. and East Lanka Resorts Ltd. and Partner of Micro Bytech Trading.



He was also an active member of the Jaycees, and was its Executive Vice President of Junior Chamber Sri Lanka in 1995. In 1997, he joined the Rotary Club of Colombo South and served the club as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vocational Services Director respectively and was elected as the club President for the year 2006/7. He served the District as Assistant Governor during the year 2010/11, District Secretary in 2011/12 and District Chairman – Club Administration in 2012/13 and has been elected as the District Governor Nominee for the year 2015/16. 



During the last 17 years of his Rotary membership he was awarded three district recognitions as the best Vocational Services Director in 2003/4, Outstanding Assistant Governor in 2010/11 and won the coveted PDG Gemunu Gunatillake Memorial Trophy for being the “Most Outstanding Rotarian of the year 2011/12”.



Jesuthasan loves travelling, reading and listening to music. He is married to Evangeline and is blessed with two sons; Julian the eldest holds an M.Eng. degree from University of Nottingham and Adrian holds a BBA degree with a major in Marketing from Northwood University.
