Singer Sri Lanka last week announced the tie up as the exclusive distributors in Sri Lanka, for Huawei’s best selling range of Android-enabled smartphones, mediapads and mobiles.

Huawei, a global giant in telecom and mobile devices is entering the Sri Lankan market with a range of affordably-priced products that appeal to youth market. Together with Singer, Huawei launched seven different devices which included three Android Gingerbread based smartphones from the ‘Ascend’ series as well as Huawei’s flagship ‘Honor’ smartphone and the ‘MediaPad’ both running on the latest Android 4.0 ice cream sandwich platform.

To appeal to the youth market, Singer signed on Saranga Disasekara, the young film and TV star as the brand ambassador. Huawei Technologies Sri Lanka Austin Wang said: “We are excited to find a partner who will take our brand to the widest market. Singer was the perfect choice because of the extensive reach of its retail network and the solid trust that the brand commands.” With a distribution network of over 360 outlets this coming together brings one word to mind; ‘domination.’ Both companies share a similar vision and have a much respected proven track record. Huawei started with approximately $5,000 dollars and 30 years later have a revenue stream in excess of $20 billion, combine that with the history of Singer since 1851, ownership in the youth market is now the goal. Commenting on the launch, Singer Sri Lanka Group CEO, Asoka Peiris said: “We are proud to become the exclusive distributor of Huawei’s products. Huwaei is a global brand that will make the android universe more accessible to customers more than ever before through a highly price competitive strategy.” “Huawei is the smart choice in smartphones,” Peiris added. In addition to being a manufacturer of mobile phones, Huawei is a global powerhouse in mobile telecom infrastructure equipment with 40 of the top 50 mobile telecom operators in the world, operating on Huawei’s platform.
