Dr. Milinda Salpitikorala’s latest collection  of Skzin tees as well as sketches, paintings and digital artwork will be on display and up for sale at the Lionel Wendt Harold Pieris Gallery Colombo 03 today (26) and tomorrow (27) May from 10a.m. to 7p.m. in the artist’s debut exhibition.

The exhibition will showcase works from past to present inspired by the ‘Doc’s’s fascination with  rock/metal, dark arts and the paranormal. Speaking to Daily FT Dr. Salpitikorala stated that this exhibition, in which he’s collaborated with other up and coming artists will offers art lovers and curious onlookers alike a diverse range of art unlike they’ve seen before.

He explained, “This exhibition will display the best of my work; canvas, acrylic paintings, digital artworks and simple pen and paper.” The exhibition is a merger of ideas and mediums, as the Doc says that his new t-shirt line (launched in January) will also be up for sale. For Dr. Salpitikorala, inspiration comes “from all over”, mostly though, it’s been in the form of a tune while other times it’s a combination of thoughts, stories and visual experiences. As for what’s next after the exhibition, Dr. Salpitikorala, who is a medical professional, states, “Honestly I have no plan. All I want to do is create art nothing gives me grater satisfaction and I will continue to draw as long as I can.

With no formal training, The Doc loves good old fashioned pen/pencil on paper as well as canvas acrylic and also dabbles in digital work after learning photo-shop.

“The medium depends on the situation; at home I prefer canvas and acrylic but when I am out it’s either photo-shop with a graphics tablet on my laptop or pen and prescription pad. In the future, I also would like to do some sculptures.”

On his unusual inspirations, he stated that he loves drawing things that “we don’t get to see anymore,” in a way that allows the viewer to visualise it in non-traditional forms. “I have an interesting theory about the origin of the alien figure we know today. I am not going to say anything else, because you have to see it for yourself at the exhibition.”
