SLASA to discuss apparel industry position in the region on 11 July

To assess where the industry stands when comparing with others in the region, the Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association (SLASA) will be holding a meeting on 11 July 2013 at The Kingsbury, Colombo, from 6.30 p.m. onwards. The SLASA said the event will be an interactive discussion regarding Sri Lanka’s position with the changes and developments in the countries in the region and expected to allow participants to put forward their concerns and gain better understanding on resolving specific issues. The meeting will focus on problems in the regional apparel industry and will look into areas such as number of factories and machines in operation, raw materials, compliance needs, controlling overheads, value addition, costing, speed, consistent quality, competitiveness, and the capacity that can be offered by Sri Lanka to its clients. The meeting will be facilitated by Nitches Lanka Chairman and Managing Director Gopal K. Iyer and Favourite Group Managing Director Kumar Mirchandani. The panel includes SLASA Chairperson and Marks & Spencer Country Manager Thushara Wickramanayake, Orit Apparel & Orit Trading Chairman Channa Palanasuriya, SLASA Deputy Chairman and Next Sourcing Regional Director Chanaka Perera, Orit Inc. Managing Director Lalantha Wathudura, and SLASA Deputy Chairman and George Sourcing Services Sri Lanka Senior Production Merchandising Manager Gayan Galapitage. While the meeting will be attended by top management and executives from the apparel sector, SLASA hopes to attract over 200 participants for the event.
