SLIIT student second runner-up in SLIM Speech Idol

Pramadhi   Atapaththuarachchi, a third year IT student at SLIIT was the first runner-up at the recently held SLIM Speech Idol, a speech competition organised by the Toastmasters Club of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing.

The competition was held at national level for non-toastmasters, where 10 competitors were selected for the finals after a preliminary round with 50 participants. Pramadhi was awarded a trophy and Rs. 50,000 for being the first runner-up.

The award ceremony took place at the Taj Samudra, where the winners were selected by a distinguished panel of judges.

SLIIT has been involved with the Toastmasters Club for many years and provides a forum for faculty members to hone leadership and communication skills through a structured program. The club has become a Distinguished Club and received the Smedley Award and the Beat the Clock Award during the period 2011/2012. It has also initiated a Gavel Club for students to inculcate oral communication and leadership skills.
