SmithKline Beecham Ltd. has re-launched its health food drink Horlicks in Sri Lanka for growing children between six to 16 years of age. Fortified and enriched with 23 nutrients to help fill nutrient gaps among growing children, Horlicks is now reintroduced to Sri Lanka in a new attractive packaging with an improved taste. New and improved Horlicks is fortified with a mix of 23 important nutrients that provide nutrition to support the growth needs of a child such as developing and maintaining healthy bones, healthy muscles and their function, normal immune function, energy for growth and development and healthy blood. Horlicks thus has challenged itself to become even better to keep up with the needs of growing children. SmithKline Beecham Sri Lanka Marketing Director Ravindra De Coonghe said: “Vitamin A, Iron, Folic Acid and Zinc deficiencies are some widespread micro nutrient deficiencies that can impact the growth potential of a child. Therefore, regular intake of micronutrients may prove to be instrumental in maintaining health and well-being of a child. With the introduction of newly formulated Horlicks, we have tried to bring in a beverage powder that can help provide such micro nutrients to fulfil nutrition gaps.”   Category Manger Lauren Chang said: “Sri Lankan parents are very keen and concerned about their children’s food and eating habits and ensure they get their proteins, carbohydrates and fats in adequate quantities. But often vitamins and essential minerals are not consumed daily in adequate amounts due to picky eating habits of children as they generally dislike fruits and vegetables that are considered as the main dietary sources for micronutrients. This results in nutrition gaps in children. Therefore, the company has launched an awareness building program about benefits of micronutrients and their deficiencies to communicate how these assist in enhancing the full growth potential.”   New Horlicks fortified with 23 important nutrients including iron, Vitamin A, iodine, zinc, folic acid, manganese, selenium and copper is designed to help fill hidden nutrition gaps. Horlicks with the improved formulation and packaging is now available across modern trade and general trade outlets, pharmacies and other channels.
