‘Sounds of Maldives’ focuses on Maldivian traditional music with a modern contemporary feel. Sounds of Maldives is a brand which promotes the destination using the culture and the talent of Maldivian entertainers and musicians.

With the great success of the Sounds of Maldives 2011 event held in Male (the capital city of the Republic of Maldives) and Kuda Bandos with famous artistes like Unoosha, Barchie, E.sa, The 5, Dj Vifak, Harubee, Mira and Umar, the 2012 edition made its way to the shores of Sri Lanka, namely the Paradise Beach at the Mount Lavinia Hotel yesterday.

This year’s event featured popular artistes including Ritte, Mummu, E.sa, Fasy, Unoosha, Barchie, 1 Knight Stand, The Void Arcadium, Furadhan and Varadhaana Beru.

Bodu Beru and local musicians have established a unique atmosphere with their original music at this event, which has drawn musicians and singers from throughout the country. This year the event highlighted up and coming artistes that have formulated their own genre of music. Anura Dewapura, GM of MLH, stated, “Events as such are great ways of highlighting the much needed entertainment talent in the discipline of arts and culture. We are privileged to have the Maldives brand at our shores.” This unique event was held for the very first time in Sri Lanka and was supported by Mount Lavinia Hotel, the official host.

The event was organised and managed by Highrise in association with Dhivehi Records, a record label established to support and develop the local artists and local music productions.
