Sri Lanka Fashion and Apparel Awards 2013 semi final judging kicks off today

Sri Lanka Fashion and Apparel Awards (SLFAA) will shortlist and award some of the most influential personalities, organisations, partnerships and initiatives that have shaped Sri Lankan fashion and apparel. SLFAA includes nine categories for the year 2013; Individual Designer Awards - Emerging Designer, Sustainable Fashion, Graduate-Industry Collaboration and Industry Designer Awards - Design Excellence, Technical Excellence, Manufacturing Excellence, Best ‘Own-Brand’, Game Changer through Innovation and an additional category, ‘Industry Young Blood’ in order to accommodate a significant number of entrants of new designers working within apparel industry who also applied in their own capacity.
In total, SLFAA received 71 applications across the nine categories and the final shortlist will be announced on or after 15 September 2013. The Judging of SLFAA will be carried out by an expert panel comprising of some of the most prominent and influential individuals in the fashion and apparel industry worldwide including British Council Director Arts South Asia Shreela Ghosh, Head of Programs and Dean of School Fashion Menswear and Fashion Womens wear Programs and School of Materials at the Royal College of Arts Prof. Wendy Dagworthy, the former Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the London College of Fashion Prof.
Roy Peach and University College Falmouth Program Leader B.A.Fashion, Performance Sportswear Design and Fashion Photography Jane Gottelier.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Colombo next month during the Sri Lanka Design Festival, and will be presented with a rare and educational opportunity to participate in an all expenses paid trip to London, one of the world’s leading fashion capitals. This tailor-made tour will include varied exposure covering meetings with retailers, buyers and designers as well as valuable networking opportunity with UK’s fashion and retail sector.
