Sri Lanka will be hosting a high level global meeting on telecommunication in October this year in Colombo.
The 12th edition of Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) and the Global Industry Leaders Forum (GILF) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be held in Sri Lanka from 3 to 5 October, , the Government announced.
The event is organised by the ITU in cooperation with Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s cabinet has approved a proposal submitted by the President to host the two meetings.
Since its launch in 2000, the GSR, organised by the ITU, has brought together heads of national regulatory authorities from both developed and developing countries and has earned a reputation as the global annual venue for regulators to share their views and experiences.
The meeting fosters an open dialogue between the worldwide community of regulators and key ICT stakeholders including the private sector, investors and consumers.
The Global Industry Leaders Forum (GILF) which runs parallel to GSR is an event of the Telecommunication Development Sector bringing together Chief Executives from the ICT Industry.
Around 500 participants from 192 Member States including Telecom Ministers are expected to attend this event.
The lTU is the UN Specialised Agency responsible for telecommunication, information and communication technology (ICT) and comprises 193 governments and over 700.
