Sri Lanka Water Partnership (SLWP) together with the co-sponsors, International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and Unilever Pureit announced the first ever Young Water Professionals Symposium to be held from 22 to 23 November.
The symposium is open to graduate level mid career water professionals (below 35 years) employed in water sector institutions and for academics with at least seven years of work/study experience in water related matters. Research papers could be submitted under any of the following subject areas, namely; optimising water utilisation, water delivery, economic/ financial feasibility, good governance, environmental stability to cross cutting themes.
SLWP, the main organiser of the event, is partnering with institutions and corporates committed to integrated resource planning with a global water management perspective in mind.
Issuing a collective communiqué the event associates, SLWP, IWMI and Unilever stated, “This is the first ever Young Water Professionals Symposium to be held in Sri Lanka, presenting a unique opportunity for their high-level involvement in knowledge generation in the category. We anticipate that this symposium will serve as a platform to voice and share knowledge that would provide us with a better understanding of the water footprint in Sri Lanka and pave the way for robust and sustainable national water management initiatives.”
As a build up for the symposium, one page abstracts should be submitted on or before 10 August. The evaluation will be done by an expert panel comprising eminent industry professionals.
The abstracts will be evaluated by a technical committee and 25 selected applicants will be requested to submit the full paper version which should not exceed 10 pages. Chosen papers will be presented by the respective authors at the symposium. Selected presenters will be eligible for an honorarium of up to Rs. 20,000 and the best two presenters will be sponsored to participate in a selected international water related event. A special prize will also be awarded to the best presentation on the theme ‘Optimising water Utilisation – Water quality’.
